A Beautiful Day

9

March 18, 2012 by Shannon

It was a gorgeous 81 degree day out and we decided to go to the dog beach.  There were lots of people and dogs enjoying the beach today.

Rama usually elicits many comments everywhere we go.  Today was no different.  The overwhelming majority are positive.   We do get many smiling faces, many “beautiful dog!” comments and of course that is nice.  I understand some people are afraid of Rama because of her size and her closely-cropped ears.  Sometimes I am so glad that she doesn’t understand some of the less-than-friendly comments.  We are used to people snatching their children and dogs out of the way as they pass, and I even had a man come up to me once and say that he would be glad when “those dogs aren’t allowed out in public.”  Many people mistake her for a Pit Bull or a mix thereof.  We do find some folks that know their dog breeds and that can correctly identify her, and even if they can’t, there are lots of folks who stop to pet her and ask about her.
Today no one avoided us (yay!), I only heard one nervous “That’s a giant Pit Bull!” comment and we had several visitors.  We sat on our blanket, played in the surf and chatted with other dog owners.  It was a nice time.
Wet and happy

“Wheeeee!”

Sitting in the surf, ha ha ha

“MORE pictures?  You know what I look like, Mom.  Geez!”

After we left the dog beach we headed to one of our favorite dog-friendly areas and had a delicious lunch.  Excuse the odd hue to these next photos.  They were taken with my cell phone.
After lunch we walked across the street to the park so that the kids could play.  Rama watches.  I wish I’d had my phone handy because a little boy–probably about 15 months old or so–came up to Rama and hugged her around her neck.  His grandfather was with him and was sure to ask if they could approach.  Rama is wonderfully tolerant, especially of children.  I wish I’d gotten a picture of the little boy smiling and hugging her.

It was a lovely day.  As soon as we got home, Rama fell asleep.  She was worn out and snoring within minutes.  Time for Mom to grab a coffee and head to the hammock.  We hope everyone had as lovely a day as we did.

Great post i am a pet food adviser, Pet food normally sold in pet food supply stores and pet food supermarkets, it is usually exact to the type of animal, for instance dog food or cat food. A big quantity of meat used for non-human animals is a by-product of the human food manufacturing.

Yes, the weather has been just fab hasn't it? 😀 Looks like you have a really nice doggy beach where you are. You lucky gal! 🙂 In my neck of the woods there's a couple butt one is really small and crowded and the other is really far away. That's okay though cause I have my own secret sandbar that Mom and I kayak to so I can romp up a storm 😀

    Happy Spring to yaz!

Rama is beautiful, indeed! I'm the proud mom of a brindle (Rama's color exactly) pit-corso mix. Her name is Luca and she is a joy. She also LOVES to swim, is wonderful with kids and is the smartest pup I know (I also have a french mastiff, who is a lovable dufus lol).
We've certainly gone through our share of “street crossers”, “scared yelpers”, and “kid pullers” in the 5 years that Luca has been alive (and with us). It used to hurt, but now I just ignore them. And Luca doesn't know or care, thank god! Anyway, my friend Lauren (of Life with Desmond) sent me over here to check out the blog and share mutual corso love. Glad I did! Nice blog, and fun beach post 🙂

Thank you so much for the compliments and for stopping by. So nice of Lauren to tell you about us! 🙂 Ohhhh I love Dogues, too. ❤ It does bother me sometimes, but you'd think after 20+ yrs of it (I had Rottweilers for a long time and a Pit Bull mix of my own) I'd be used to it. I try to get folks talking. A lot of times we end up with new friends as some folks are willing to pet Rama and talk about her and of course she is so sweet she wins them over every time. 😉
